30 Fun Ways To Spend Time With Your Kids

Josh Houser

I recently wrote a blog post on ‘5 Ways To Be An Awesome Dad’. In it, I explained that quantity time will lead to great quality moments. Life can be demanding but we get to decide what we spend our time on, and we should be spending lots of time with our kids. Not only time but intentional time.

Deuteronomy 6:7-9 gives us amazing instruction as parents. “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

The key to parenting (or any relationships that matter to you) is being intentional. My encouragement to you is: Don’t let the days float by, but be intentional with your time. Often in the morning, I tell myself this, ‘I have today to disciple my kids.’ This helps me be intentional as we work, drive, play and move through life. I tell myself this because I don’t want to miss a day of helping my kids grow in the Lord. As I move through the day,  I try to speak with lots of encouragement and life-giving words and stay away from ‘bible-thumping’ or demeaning words. I then look for opportunities to share, coach and encourage as we move our family toward the abundant life we have in Christ.

In this blog, I want to help you with two things:

  1. Give you fresh ideas of things to do to spend time together. These ideas are fun and I believe I have covered every age range possible. I hope to help you create meaningful time together where you can encourage and build up your family.
  2. Give you everything you need to lead a family worship time with your family. If you have never done this, your family will be blessed BIG TIME!

Here are 30 ideas on fun ways to spend time with your kids:

Take a walk and talk | Find a cool new cool hike and go explore | Go to the park and play on the playground or find a new park | Read a story together or better yet, write a story | Write a song or write a scripture song |Make new hand motions to a Seeds song | Play soccer, play catch, play basketball | Have a picnic | Play a board game | Have a pillow fight | Paint or draw together | Fly a kite | Prank call the grandparents (yea I said that… sorry) | Learn to juggle | Bake something for a friend | Go swimming | Have a fire and roast marshmallows | Make milkshakes and then drink and talk | Make hand painted t-shirts | Ride bikes | Tell stories (my kids favorite) | Create a fort | Play hide and seek | Make a movie | Turn up the Seeds music and dance | Have a paper airplane throwing contest | Visit the Library | Collect bugs Have a family egg toss | Make breakfast together

Leading A Family Worship Time For Your Family

Another name for Family Worship is Family Devotions. This is the practice of intentionally setting aside time to teach, train and disciple your family. This devotion was created to make family worship around 15 minutes, but do whatever works for your family. We have created these devotions so that every family can easily have worship time together around God’s Word.

Each Family Worship devotions are set up like this:

  1. Pray 2. Sing 3. Read 4. Talk 5. Pray

Here is everything you need to create an awesome family worship time: For ‘Sing’ Section: Download Video OR Download Song   For ‘Read & Talk’ Section: Download & Print Family Devotion For Jeremiah 33:3

Once you have downloaded the video, song and devotion let your family know what day and time you are going to meet. Then just follow the instructions on the devotion and you are set up to have awesome family time around God’s Word.
