We are thankful for you and are grateful that you have chosen to partner with us to fulfill your most important calling as a parent: to teach your children to follow Jesus.
The theme for this month’s Seeds Family Box is THANKFULNESS. Thankfulness is one of the most important character traits that we as parents can build in our children. We want to come alongside your family and help you make the most of the Thanksgiving holiday season. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 is the Houser family’s theme verse, and it captures the heart of who we want our family to be:
“Be joyful always; pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
How can we be thankful in all circumstances? This month’s box is full of meaningful family activities to help you and your family grow in thankfulness towards God. Let’s jump in!
Seeds Journal
We intentionally chose resources this month to inspire you as parents to dig deeper into your relationship with the Lord. This Seeds Journal is meant to be a tool for you to use to till the soil in your own heart and pursue God in prayer on behalf of your family.
To establish a culture of thankfulness in your home, you will need to pursue thankfulness in your own heart towards God.
We encourage you to open this journal and write a short prayer to the Lord. Next, we encourage you to take a moment at the beginning of every day this month and write something that you are thankful for. Take it a step further and ask your kids to list their “thankful” and write them down too.
Seeds Coffee Cup
Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a new coffee cup! My brother says you can always tell where his heart is by the coffee cup he chooses in the morning.
This coffee cup will encourage you to be thankful to God! Psalm 105 encourages us to thank and praise God and tell of the incredible things He has done. It finishes by reminding those seeking God to do so with joy.
Listen to the song “Give Thanks” from Seeds Of Character.
Psalm 105:1-3 Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
“QUIETLY” SCRIPTURE LULLABIES CD
We love this album from our friends at Breakaway Music, the people who created the beautiful Scripture Lullaby Series. Here’s the heart behind the series from its creator, Jay Stalker:
”Quietly” is the first album in an instrumental series from Scripture Lullabies. Whether you are two or 92, Scripture Lullabies will minister deeply to your soul with beautiful, breathtaking orchestrations that sound more like a movie score. Adults, teens, and children experience relief from anxiety as an atmosphere of peace replaces turmoil and unrest. Experience God in a uniquely gentle way with Scripture Lullabies.
Seeds Thanksgiving Tree & Cards
We have included a Seeds Thanksgiving Tree poster for you to use as a creative activity this entire month to communicate your THANKFULNESS to God for all that He has done for your family. We have done this in our own homes and it has been an incredible blessing.
We have provided 3 sheets of paper containing 27 leaves to be shared with everyone in your household. Have each family member write something they are thankful to God for, cut it out, (some may want to color it), and hang it on the Thanksgiving Tree.
We suggest making this a weekly activity prior to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
10 REASONS I’M THANKFUL FOR YOU
We have included 7 cards for you to use as a family to create an opportunity to grow in thankfulness by practicing it together. Feel free to copy and create additional cards for other friends and family.
Ephesians 4:29 says, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (NIV)
One way to build each other up is to share reasons why you are thankful for each other. We encourage you to give each family member a card and assign them someone in your family to share the 10 reasons why they are thankful for them…tell them to be specific and positive.
Plan some time for a special mealtime or gathering to connect as a family and encourage each other.
Bible Verse Print
You will often hear us referring to Deuteronomy 6. It is one of the key places in scripture that teaches God’s plan for how parents are to pass their faith to their children. Deuteronomy 6:6-8 tells us to impress God’s Word on the hearts of our children as they go through their daily lives — at home, on the road, in the morning and at night. It continues in verse 9 to encourage parents to “write them on the doorframes of [their] houses and on [their] gates.”
We created this poster to help you do that. We encourage you to place this in a highly visible location in your house as a reminder to be thankful on a daily basis.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 tells us that God’s will for us in Christ Jesus is to be JOYFUL, PRAYERFUL, and THANFUL.
