Rise and Be Honored: Moms Who Have Adopted

Sarah K Patrick

Introduction

This week we’re doing a series in honor of Mother’s Day entitled, “Rise and Be Honored.” We have all seen it depicted that when a man or woman comes into the throne room of a King, they show honor by kneeling. When the King chooses to honor the one before them, he tells them to rise.

It is with this in mind that we named our series as we did. We feel God, our King, wants to show honor to women this week. We believe He wants to validate stories and bring recognition to moms, and women, everywhere. Each day we will highlight a new group of moms, both physical and spiritual – those who have celebrated and those who have grieved over those they mother. We hope you will join us by giving honor to the women in your life as well.

We also have a fantastic giveaway with lots of new prizes each day. Make sure to honor the women in your life in the comments below and on our social media profiles.

It’s going to be an exciting week! We hope you will join us!

Day 1: Moms Who Have Adopted

Adoption isn’t a man-made creation or simply a beautiful idea some good-hearted person once had. Adoption is the very fabric of our redemption story in Christ. Christ, our redeemer, gave the ultimate price – himself – to redeem us from sin and torment. Jesus paid this price so we could be given a new family, a new name, and a new story. God has given you and me the very same rights and privileges of His natural born heir, Jesus. Incredibly, God sees no difference in our standing with Him. We are equally welcomed close. We have been adopted.

To the mother who has adopted a child, this is what we see in your story. You paid a great price to redeem a child back and each day we watch redemption unfold in the telling of your story. It might not always feel holy to you, but we believe it is.

So, in honor of our Mother’s Day series, Seeds Family Worship would like to say, “Rise, and be honored.” Thank you for obeying God’s voice and saying, “yes.” We know your yes requires you to be uncomfortable at times while loving this precious one deeply. You opened your life, your home, and your heart while doing this incredibly holy thing -redeeming the life of a child.

We know you have many, many good days. That you have amazing days with giant victories. We know you have hard days too. We know we don’t always understand the struggles you and your children face and plain ignorance can make people say unkind things or overlook your unseen needs. But, we know what you do is holy – set apart, sacred, and intense. We believe in what you are doing.

Psalm 118_29_2

We also believe this holy thing you do isn’t just for you or your children. It’s for all of us. We need a world where the life of a child is valuable and worth redeeming. Champions who lay their lives on the line and go to great lengths to love deeply. We need your story to be the physical reminder of our own story with God our Father.

What you do makes a difference.

Thank you.

Conclusion

We would also like to take a moment and honor one of our own, Jessica Morlan. Many of you know Jessica because you have watched her on stage leading you at Seeds worship events. She and her husband, Phillip, adopted two amazing boys and live this life of redemption in front of us daily. Jessica is a great champion to those of us who know her and we are so thankful for her. Happy Mother’s Day, Jessica. We love you!

I needed to read this today. As a new adoptive mother, thank you. Thank you for this post and for what you as a ministry have meant to our family. We just jammed out to some Seeds Family Worship this morning!

Deana! I am so glad you read this and it encouraged you. It was written just for you! We are so thankful for what you and all adoptive moms do each day. Thank you for listening to God and saying yes to adoption. Happy Mother’s Day!

Thank you so much for this. As an adoptive mom of two, one with severe heart defect, I often feel like I am in the trenches just trying to get by. Adoption is beautiful and amazing but can be hard and lonely at times too. God has taught me more about him and about life through my girls than any other experience my life. Thank you for speaking words of hope and truth to remind me today.

      Tara,
We are so proud of you! Thank you for making such a beautiful choice. We pray that God will bring some deep connections alongside you when you feel lonely. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Happy Mother’s Day!

Beautiful tribute. My own sweet parents adopted me as an infant, and because of their “yes,” my sister has adopted 6, and I have adopted 3. 10 orphans have a family that loves them and embraces them and pushes them to Jesus. And who knows how many others have been influenced in this way, as well. <3 God is so good!
