Fun & Easy Family Devotions: Verse 10 | Devotion 1 – Philippians 4:6-7

Devotion 1 Philippians 4:6-7

Devotion

Devotion By Kylie Lynch aka “Worship Girl,” aka “Smiley Kylie”

There was a time in life when I did not have any friends. That may seem crazy since I’m so smiley and happy doing hand motions on the Seeds videos, but it’s true. We lived in Utah at the time. Most of the families in our neighborhood were Mormons and did not want their kids to play with Christians. This made me feel like the biggest outcast, like I had the plague or something. Plus, I was homeschooled, so there weren’t any school kids around either. The loneliness was overwhelming; how I would ever be able to make friends?

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) says, “Do not be anxious, about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

I started to pray and ask God for friends. It seemed like a big, impossible thing. I was not sure how God would provide. But Jesus said if we have the faith of a mustard seed, nothing will be impossible. One day Dad said we were moving to a new town. It was still in Utah though, so we prayed as a family for God to put us in the right house in the right neighborhood. I was nervous about the move; would our new neighbors also treat me like an outcast? Here’s the cool part: the day we moved in, one of the neighbor girls walked up and said, “can we be friends?” Yes! That was the start of a new group of friends who are now some of my best friends. We love being together so much and have helped each other grow closer to God.

I am so thankful that God hears our prayers and answers them. He tells us to bring our cares, our worries, our anxieties to Him in prayer. We can trust him completely and depend on him to bring us peace in the midst of our needs.

Question

Is there an immovable “mountain” in your life right now? Something that seems impossible for God to do?

Prayer

God, thank you that you are known for doing what seems impossible. We bring our requests to you and in faith trust you to meet our every need. Thank you for covering us in your peace while we wait for your answers to our prayers and your direction in our lives. We love you and are deeply grateful to you.
